Community Makeover 2010

Community Makeover plans are in the works. This event grows each year. This year, there are already over 60 churches signed up which means hundreds and hundreds of projects all over Atlanta.

A Fresh Hope is honored to participate in the Community Makeover. We will be working at Compton Elementary School in Powder Springs, GA from July 23rd - July 25th. Sign-ups for this event will begin shortly. This is a family friendly project.

We will be landscaping, painting doors and walls, cleaning a clothes closet, decorating, painting quotations on the walls, etc.

Donations we need for the Compton project:
***Landscaping plants/flowers
***Gently used clothes and shoes for the clothes closet. New socks and Underwear.
***Treasure box items. These can be Happy Meal type toys, pencils, stickers, etc.
***Paint rollers, brushes and drop cloths.
***Individually wrapped snacks, lotions, etc. for welcome back teacher baskets.

We will also be hosting the Back to School Drive 2010 on Saturday, July 24th at West Ridge Church. We will provide new back packs and school supplies to 1500 children in the Cobb, Paulding, Douglas and Bartow areas.

Yarns of Love

Yarns of Love!
After sheets of notebook paper were filled with possibilities, we have finally settled on a name for our charity: Yarns of Love. It is simply about knitting and crocheting scarves for children who need to be warmer in cold weather.

It is not my original idea to help children in this way. Since I NEVER watch the news, I know that it was completely of God that I saw this particular story one day while flipping through channels about a lady named "Miss Sparkles". She inspired me with what she was doing for the children in her neighborhood who were suffering in the cold. She noticed that the children in her neighborhood were shivering as they waited for the school bus. Simply wearing a coat won't keep you warm if it is cold enough outside. It doesn't matter why these children didn't have what they needed, it matters that we can all do something for them.

Making something out of love with our hands, donating yarn to others with the time and talent, or simply giving money for yarn to be purchased. Could it be any simpler? God put this passion into my heart before I even knew how to knit or crochet. I am in the process of learning and I am determined!

I am delighted to have an event where we can pass out these scarves at the Hope for Christmas at West Ridge Church. Our community is filled with families who benefit from this event and we are so blessed to be able to help by giving out some love in the form of handmade scarves!
